Transformer and Transformer Protection

Transformer and Transformer Protection  |How to work transformer|What is the protection in a transformer.

Power Transformer

A transformer is the most important equipment in our daily life. we are using different sizes of transformer directly or indirectly in our life. Ithis article, you will learn about the transformer and its protection.

Whats is the transformer and working principle?

The transformer static device. That transfer electrical energy one circuit to another circuit by mutual induction principle. And used for step-up or step down the voltage without changing the power. The transformer has two sets of wingdings one is primary another is secondary primary will be connected to the source and secondary connected to load.

What are the major parts?

The transformer construction is very simple and less component required
basic components are listed below
  • Core
  • Winding.
  • Insulator/Insulation material
  • Transformer oil
  • Conservatory tank.
  • Tap changer.
  • Radiator wings.
These are the basic component of the transformer. first three components are the primary parts of the transformer. rest of all can find only a big transformer above 100Kva.

Core:-

The core is a major part of all transformer Core provides mechanical support of winding's and provides a low reluctance path of magnetic flux. core is made upon thin seethed laminated high-grade steel commonly used for high-grade silicon steel.it will reduce eddy current loss.

Winding's:-

Normally two sets of windings are placed over the insulated core. winding's are made by copper or aluminum wire insulated by paper.low voltage winding is near the core and HV windings are placed outside of LV winding this will helps to save insulation materials also reduce the cost of the transformer.

Insulator/Insulation material:-

Transformer insulation is a major part of the transformer. I will be depending on the life and cost of the transformer. there are two types of insulating material used for the insulating transformer. paper insulation normally used for insulating transformer windings. the thickness of insulation over LV winding is less than HV. Bushing insulators used to insulate between the transformer body to the winding terminal.

Transformer oil:-

Transformer oil is generally known as mineral oil. stable durable at high temperatures. it's used only in oil-immersed transformers. its used to insulate suppress to corona discharge, arc discharge and act as a coolant. dielectric strength of the transformer oil is 30Kv.

Conservatory tank:-

Conservatory tank like a cylindric shape mounded by the top of the transformer. and fill half of the oil and left of the space for the expression of oil inside the transformer tank. And also provide two types of level indicator placed each end side of the tank
